  1. At this moment I really want to sing the song, "I'm Henry the Eighth, I am, Henry the Eighth, I am, I am... Second verse, same as the first!" But... I won't. Or wait. I already did... Oops.

My favorite Queen is Queen Elizabeth I (1558) of the "Golden Age" of England. :)

Happy Book Birthday, Katherine! Thank you for writing this wonderful story!! Good luck to all who enter (and what I would give for that first place prize...)

  2. King Arthur!

Okay, just kidding. I know he's fictional. And has a baby with his sister, which was an accident, but still yuck.

Real king...well, probably Henry for sheer entertainment value. For awesomeness, it would have to be Queen Elizabeth I. Most fascinating to study might be Richard III.

    Note: I am indecisive!

  3. Well, I don't know the names, but whichever queen liked William Shakespeare. :P

(I need to get my history down...)

  4. Hmm...favorite king or queen. Probably Anne Boelyn. Let's face it, she started it all.

HAPPY BOOK BIRTHDAY TO THE VERY AWESOME KATHERINE LONGSHORE!!! May the world finally meet Kitty and fall in love with her. :-)

  5. Of course Henry VIII is the most fun to read about, but Victoria needs props too. Okay, now for my absolute favorite - "Prince" John! I think the only reason I like him so well is because he is hilariously vilified in pop culture - Disney's Robin Hood or Robin Hood: Men in Tights, anyone?

  6. Congratulations on your Debut book release today!

    The culmination of a dream!

    All the best,

PS - My favourite ruler of England is Queen Elizabeth.

  7. Queen Victoria, because that movie with Emily Blunt made me cry.

  8. King Henry I 1100 - 1135 ,since he attempted to name his daughter his successor and make her the first queen of England. Although at that time they saw a woman as unfit to rule so when he he died they named his nephew successor instead plunging them into civil war with a country divided. But I still applaud his efforts and loyalty to his daughter :o)

  9. I'm quite fond of Victoria and Albert, but Henry VIII makes for fabulous stories. Very excited to get my hands on GILT. Thanks for the generous giveaway and best wishes!!!

  10. I kind of favor Elizabeth I. There was so much going on during her reign, particularly exploring the New World.

    ReplyDelete
  11. You have to go with Bloody Mary, Love her or hate her she was England's first Queen and paved the way for Elizabeth. Although I really wonder had poor Lady Jane not been executed and Mary never took over the throne how things would've turned out.

    ReplyDelete
  12. Yes, Elizabeth I would have to be my pick as well.

    ReplyDelete
  13. My favourite would have actually have to be three favourites - Queen Elizabeth I, Queen Victoria, and Queen Elizabeth II. I think each in their own way have been strong, powerful (not in the ruling sense) women, and I think they have been good for us British - and women -during their reigns. Especially considering they were all Queens when sons were the "desired" heirs. So glad the law has been changed now, so that Prince William's first child will become the next monarch after him, no matter what the child's sex.

  14. After watching the Tudors - which I know isn't an accurate representation of the times - I've become a bit of a Anne Bolyn fan.

And I love Queen Elizabeth the second. She's dignified and a really class lady.

    ReplyDelete
  15. I'd have to say my favorite queen of England would have to be Queen Elizabeth I. A strong, powerful woman, there was a reason the time she ruled was called the "Golden Age" of England. Thank you for the giveaway, and congratulations on Gilt's release! :)

  16. Anne Boleyn....great history there!

    ReplyDelete
  17. I'm gonna go with Mary I. Only because of the legend that followed. It's just dark and interesting. =)

    ReplyDelete
  18. i know the most things about louis xvi from french class so i'm gonna go with either him or marie antoinette : )

    ReplyDelete
  19. My favourite King/Queen would have to be Queen Elizebeth I.. mainly because of her fascinating past from how she was a child till she actually became queen.

    ReplyDelete
  20. Well, I fell in love with Victoria after watching The Young Victoria...

    ReplyDelete
  21. Queen Victoria, of course.

    ReplyDelete
  22. Oh dear, pick just one? I'm fascinated with Queen Victoria and Queen Elizabeth I, but the ones that I drown myself in hisfic of are the wives of Henry VII. I even wrote a series of short stories about them! Anne Boleyn always fascinates me the most, I think.

    ReplyDelete
  23. just picking one. . . . well I would automatically think King Arthur but he might have just been a legend. A medieval general that fought against the Saxtons, but was revived through literature and the attempts of the Plantagenets to restore their lineage . . .whatever still love him!

  25. aaah! Now Im entering the giveaway and I have to answer who my favorite King/Queen of England is (sorry for the spam)

I would say Queen Victoria since I have always been very obsessed with the Victorian era but now thanks to Gilt, I am obsessed with the tudors and the court of Henry XVIII too! Yay! ^_^

    ReplyDelete
  26. I'm not sure if I have a favorite king. King Henry VIII was an idiot. I know I'm not supposed to like Anne Boleyn, especially since she stole Henry from Catherine (of Aragon) but she was just so... fascinating..at least on the TV show. She did manage to influence Henry, greatly and I have to hand it to her for that, even though she's kind of a ...uhm, I'll refrain from mentioning.

Thanks for the giveaway. I'm gonna read Gilt soon =D

  27. My favorite queen is Anne Boleyne because she changed the course of history. She was such a smart women and well read and highly politicized.

Thanks for such an awesome giveaway:)

  28. Queen Victoria got my vote when she showed up on Doctor Who (a 10th Doctor and Rose episode called Tooth and Claw. It's amazing.) I was predisposed to like her after learning a bit about her in my Victorian lit class, but that episode sealed the deal.

  29. Truthfully, I don't know much about the monarch history, but I have to say I'm fascinated with the culture surrounding both Marie Antoinette and Queen Victoria - both so intriguing! As I'm also in love with current England (I was born there), I do have to say I have the utmost respect for Queen Elizabeth II - classy and lovely.

    Happy book birthday!

  30. Thank you for having an online launch party! And congratulations on release day!

    The totes look awesome...*Crosses fingers*

My favorite queen is Queen Elizabeth I.

  31. Thank you for the giveaway!
My favorite queen is also Queen Elizabeth.

    ReplyDelete
  32. My favorite king is King Henry VIII.
    And congrats!!

    ReplyDelete
  33. I always liked Queen Victoria.

    ReplyDelete
  34. Yeah, I'm gonna go with either Queen Victoria or Queen Elizabeth I.

    ReplyDelete
  35. Cleopatra. She was seriously hardcore as a ruler and a woman ruler in a time period dominated by men.

    ReplyDelete
  36. Catherine of Aragon, I always felt she deserved more. She got screwed because her husband wasn't happy. Not ok.

    ReplyDelete
  37. Augustus Caesar - He greatly improved the infrastructure of Rome and its military. Additionally, he was a great diplomat and did an excellent job forging relationships. Thanks for the giveaway!

    ReplyDelete
  38. Queen Elizabeth I although I will admit I get guilty pleasure reading about all of Henry VIII's wives.

    ReplyDelete
  39. King Arthur. He's brilliant.

    ReplyDelete
  40. Definitely Queen Victoria! So classy.

    ReplyDelete
  41. I can't say King Arthur, righ? LOL! Okay, in that case I'll go with Queen Victoria! I loved her historical period!

    ReplyDelete
  42. I don't really have a favorite. I think Henry VIII is definitely the most interesting, but Elizabeth is just amazing.

Thanks for the great giveaway! Happy book birthday! :D

    ReplyDelete
  43. Yay! Thanks for the giveaway! My favorite king would have to be Henry VIII. Cliche, I know. I blame the Tudors. Another is Juana the Loca. I read a book about her that had my heart breaking for her (The Last Queen). And then there's poor Catherine of Aragon.

    ReplyDelete
  44. That's a question I've never actually thought about. My favourite is likely to be the Queen with the most sass... and I'm inclined to think that that title falls on Queen Victoria.

    ReplyDelete
  45. So many wonderful responses! I love reading about your favorite kings and queens and reasons for liking them!

    ReplyDelete
  46. Thank you for this giveaway and for opening it internationally !! My favorite queen is Elizabeth and a close second would be Anne Boleyn, she's the reason I'm obsessed with the Turdor era (and the tv show; Natalie Dormer was amaaaazing). I can't wait to read Gilt, i can't find on kindle it's driving me nuts lol

    ReplyDelete
  47. Definitely Queen Victoria! :)

    ReplyDelete
  48. You know, you cant ask a history major to pick favorites. ;) However, I love King George VI's story and also Queen Victoria's.

    ReplyDelete
  49. I mean, I am not sure if he's exactly my favourite, but his side of history is my Favourite, so yeah, Henry the Eighth

    ReplyDelete
  50. King Arthur! Wait, what? They have to be real? AH! Let's see.. probably Queen Elizabeth!

    ReplyDelete
  51. I'm going to have to go with Anne Boleyn. I've been fascinated by the Tudor court ever since I remember reading a Royal Diaries book about young Elizabeth when I was maybe 8 or 9. It's amazing the way Anne Boleyn and Elizabeth are connected, and the brief time Anne had at court to make such a lasting impact on her country.

    ReplyDelete
  52. I've always liked Queen Victoria! Thanks for the awesome giveaway! ♥

    ReplyDelete
  53. Queen Elizabeth I.She was very interesting.

    ReplyDelete
  54. Hmm, I'd say Queen Elizabeth II! This giveaway is epic but not as epic as Gilt! <3

    ReplyDelete
  55. Queen Elizabeth I. She is the epitome of feminine strength (and probably a very cliched answer). Oh well. <3 Thanks so much for this giveaway!

    ReplyDelete
  56. Do they have to be real? I'd vote for King Arthur then ;) if not Lady Jane. SHe was queen for about a day wasn't she?

    ReplyDelete
  57. Good luck with your launch! I love totes and lipstick so this giveaway is calling my name!

    ReplyDelete
  58. Queen Victoria :) It might have something slightly to do with the awesome movie where Emily Blunt plays her... :)

Thanks for the amazing giveaway and good luck for the launch!

  59. In 9th grade I had to pick an English queen/king to do a paper about as if we were them in the present. I happened to pick Queen Elizabeth Tudor. She was a brave & somewhat ruthless queen, which i loved. Awesome giveaway question, thanks!

    ReplyDelete
  60. Am a huge fan of the Tudor time period so I'd have to say that my favorite Queen was Catherine of Aragon. :) Happy Launch Day!

    ReplyDelete
  61. My favorite is probably Queen Catherine (of Aragon) who married King Henry VIII, as I've read a few historical books about her and always admired her strength of character. Thanks for the giveaway!

    ReplyDelete
  62. I love how many of you have chosen the first Elizabeth! (hmmm, there may be another series in there...) and I would have to say Arthur counts!

For those of you saying Victoria, I hear you! Loved the Emily Blunt movie, too. Keep the answers coming!

    ReplyDelete
  63. Queen Elizabeth is my fave. She didn't take any crap and was a warrior queen that didn't need a man to back her up.

    ReplyDelete
  64. Edward I. I wouldn't have wanted to be *governed* by him or anything, but I love how his foreign policy was "eff you." And his domestic policy was also "eff you." Gotta admire his consistency.

    ReplyDelete
  65. I think my favorite queen was Queen Elizabeth. Thanks for the giveaway.

    ReplyDelete
  71. Thanks for the giveaway! I'd have to pick Queen Victoria! :D

    ReplyDelete
  72. English queen? Anne Boleyn. Non-English queen? Cleopatra. But my favorite queen of all may well be the band. :)

Congrats on your launch! May it be everything you dreamed of and more!

    ReplyDelete
  73. Even though he wasn't the greatest husband, King Henry VIII completely fascinates me. I am equally as fascinated by Anne Boleyn and even though I'm not sure exactly how I feel about her, it's obvious she must've been quite a woman to capture the King the way she did.

    ReplyDelete
  74. I've always been intrigued by the recent royals - the current queen and Diana - even though she would never have been queen herself. I grew up in the '80s when women's magazines constantly featured Diana. She seemed so sophisticated and I liked that she cared so much about her boys - they were often included in pictures of her. I was so sad when she died. My aunt called us when it happened, it was the middle of the night and woke us up!

I've been hearing a bunch about Gilt so the word is definitely out.

    ReplyDelete
  75. Queen Elizabeth (the first one). I like her strength and the fact that she was a strong queen without a man.
